Telefónica plans to start testing a 3D IPTV service in São Paulo this year, according to local reports, using a TV supplied by Philips which does not require special glasses to view the 3D image.
Telefónica will offer the service to residents of the region of Jardins in São Paulo, as these clients are connected to a fibre optical network which has the transmission capacity to deliver 3D IPTV. The biggest challenge for the service is that it is currently only possible with the specially developed Philips television the WOWvx-powered 1080p 52-inch Philips 3D HDTV, which currently costs around €18,000. However Philips believes that the television will be much cheaper in the near future: "Today the technology is aimed more at corporate applications," said Renato Secco, Director of the company’s Brazilian subsidiary. "Inside three or four years it will be much more accessible to the consumer."

Samsung’s Armani Paw LCD TV is available in 46 and 52 inch screen sizes with a cabinet designed by the man himself. The TV is currently only available in Korea, but features 120Hz picture processing and built-in RSS feed support. Price? If you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.
Dell have finally released the new 2408WFP Monitor in the US for a reasonable price of $748. Now this is not really the monitor I would want as I would much prefer the 30" 3008WFP Monitor which the larger version of this 2408WFP. I suppose this one will have to do for now, so what you get with this monitor?
- 1,900 x 1,200 resolution
- 178-degree viewing angle
- 1,300:1 contrast ratio
- 400 cd/m2 brightness
- 6-ms response
- 102% color gamut
- HDMI
- 2x DVI
- DisplayPort
- VGA
- Composite
- S-Video
- Component
- A single USB upstream
- 2x USB downstream
Obviously the main thing to note here is the use of DisplayPort. DisplayPort s intended to help solve the problem of displays sucking up too much electricity and should benefit the next generation of displays. DisplayPort can also be used to make internal connections, eliminating the need to translate signals from one format to another.
Unfortunately no graphics cards currently support DisplayPort but they are due out this year. No word on UK availability or pricing!
Apparantly Toshiba has rolled out a 22 super Kousei small LCD monitor” with a resolution of 3840×2400, 200 dots per inch and a contrast ration of 300:1. The monitor should sell for 2,079,000 Yen ($18,000, £9000). There is also a XP-compatible PCI card required to run it will set you back another 312,900 Yen ($2,700, £1,350).
This new TV was showed off at the IFA this year. One other impressive feature about this TV is that is uses about the same power as a 37 Inch LCD. No pricing yet but I wonder if my girlfriend will shout at me when I spend a house deposit towards it.
